If you’re ever in southern Utah you have got to check out Prophesy Wall. It’s great for rock climbing beginners and also has climbs to challenge you if you are an experienced rockclimber. With single pitch climbs that you can do with a 60 meter a rope too long multi-pitches that have roofs and some big jugs to pretty bare face climbs there’s quite a bit great sandstone to get your hands on.
Getting to Prophesy Wall
Prophesy wall is just up the mountain from St. George if you head up SR18 for a couple miles there are two little communities you will pass and once you get to Dammeron Valley you will take a dirt road on the left-hand side that takes you out towards upper and lower sand cove. As you pass upper sand cove on your left hand side you’ll see a cliff face about 500 yards out.
This beaut is all sandstone and has a variety of climbs for everyone, great to take a beginner that would like to get into multi-pitch climbing. It is best to be there in the morning during summer and the evening during the winter. Definitely not a wall to miss out on.
Be sure to get around to a couple of the other places in southern Utah to rock climb. Be sure to not climb at Prophecy Wall after storms (sandstone gets bittle when wet) you’re gonna want to go climbing at Black rock’s, one of my favorite climbing areas.
