Mountain Biking Bear Claw Poppy

Bear-Claw-Poppy-Mountain-BikingIf you’re in St. George Utah for a mountain biking trip, I would highly recommend first starting out riding Bear Claw Poppy. It is one most popular trails here in southern Utah just right off the freeway. If you take the Bloomington exit it is just off of Navajo Drive.

Incredible Roller Coaster Style Track

Bear claw is a roller coaster style track where there are multiple routes you can take. There are tons of alternate routs and and different drops that vary in difficulty. The trail is really mild, I would be comfortable taking my old dad on it.

Mountain Biking Route

I would highly recommend going from the top down if you’re looking for just a casual ride. If you’re looking for some training I would recommend riding from the bottom up and back down, that way you get a good workout. The downhill for 4 miles or so will just be tons of fun.

Trail Conditions

It’s definitely trouble in 107° in the summer, but we have done it before. I would just highly recommends not eating two double double burgers from in-n-out before you go,  it definitely causes a little bit of discomfort. If you are going to be in southern Utah for a long time I would definitely check out some other trails, there are tons in the area. If you’re willing to venture out there are tons of great trails on the outskirts of town and near Zion. Southern Utah is full of amazing mountain biking, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
